Babajide Happy To End Tenerife Goal Drought, Shifts Attention To Cameroon Clash

Nigerian forward Rinsola Babajide has expressed delight to have ended her goal drought at UD Costa Adeje Tenerife ahead of the 2024 Olympics qualifying tie against Cameroon, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The 25-year-old last scored for her club on October 1 in their 2-1 home loss to Real Madrid. It was against the same opponents that she returned to scoring on Sunday, scoring her team’s consolation goal in a 2-1 loss in a Primera División Femenina Game Week 18 tie at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano, Madrid.

She drew her club level on 55 minutes after Olga Carmona put Real Madrid in the lead from the spot on 28 minutes. Signe. Bruun scored the match winner two minutes into added time.

She shared her thoughts on Instagram: "This one hurts, but on a personal note, I’m happy to end my goal drought just before the international break. Now focus turns to the Olympic qualifiers. Glory to God always."

Rinsola represented England at the youth level before switching allegiances to Nigeria, making her debut on October 25, 2023, starting in a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia during 2024 Olympic qualifying.

The former Liverpool player is among the 21 players invited by Coach Randy Waldrum for the 2024 Olympics qualifying double header against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon. 

The first leg takes place on Friday, February 23, at the Stade de la Réunification in Douala, while the reverse encounter will take place three days later at Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
