Leon Balogun, a Rangers defender, is targeting a return to Nigeria's Super Eagles squad, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

At 36, Balogun was a key figure under former coach Gernot Rohr but saw his progress disrupted by recurring injuries.

Now fully fit, the former Mainz 05 player is determined to reclaim his place in the national team as Nigeria prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

"I didn’t reject an invitation; unfortunately, just before the World Cup break, I suffered an injury that was supposed to keep me out for a few weeks, but things didn’t go as planned," Balogun said in an interview with Brila FM.

"I couldn’t join the squad because I wasn’t yet fit, and even after I recovered, I had a setback. However, since then, I haven’t had any major injuries."

"I’ve always been available. I’ve never announced my retirement from international football. Those who need to know are aware that I’m still eager and determined to represent the national team."
