Defending Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions, Banyana Banyana of South Africa, have boycotted training in Morocco ahead of the 2025 tournament, in protest over unpaid allowances and outstanding camp dues, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The team, which arrived in Morocco just days ago to begin final preparations for their title defence, has opted out of scheduled training sessions due to what they describe as unresolved financial obligations from the South African Football Association (SAFA).

Sources close to the team confirm that players are demanding the immediate payment of owed entitlements, including match bonuses and training allowances, which they say were promised ahead of the tournament.

The timing of the protest casts a shadow over South Africa’s WAFCON campaign, with their opening fixture looming. The standoff also raises broader concerns about player welfare and financial accountability within African women’s football.

Neither SAFA nor the team’s technical officials have issued an official statement as of the time of this report, but discussions are reportedly ongoing behind the scenes to resolve the impasse and restore focus ahead of the competition.
