Basket Landes Head Coach Excited To Sign D'Tigress Star
Precious Oham
Basket Landes Head Coach, Julie Barennes has expressed excitement over the acquisition of D'Tigress star, Murjanatu Musa, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
To compensate for Marie Gülich's long-term injury, Basket Landes has signed 25-year-old Nigeria's Murjanatu Musa on a one-year contract.
Transferring from Tarbes Gespe Bigorre, she will strengthen the Landes interior sector and bring all her energy to both ends of the court.
Her athletic profile and human qualities will perfectly match the identity of Julie Barennes' squad. Having recently played for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, Musa has particularly distinguished herself in the Tarbes jersey thanks to her first-rate performances (several games with more than 16 rebounds and/or 20 points), both in the EuroCup Women and in La Boulangère Wonderligue where she was in the starting five of the season.
The Nigerian international, who has just won her third Women's Afrobasket Championship, is expected to join the first team around September 1, subject to the completion of administrative formalities.
Barennes said: “We are very happy to have been able to sign Murjanatu at this time because it is never easy to replace an injured player, even in the off-season when the deal has already been made.
"With her signing, we are ensuring we have a player who really performed in La Boulangère Wonderligue last season and who will bring us her energy and dynamism, perfectly suited to the basketball we want to develop at Basket Landes."
Her statistics in the French league for the 2024/25 season includes; 14.9 points (53% shooting), 9.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 34 minutes and her statistics in the European Cup includes; 15.6 points (65.6% shooting), 13.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
