Bassey Set For April Return After Missing Nigeria Friendlies

By BSN Sports

Calvin Bassey is expected to return to action for Fulham FC on April 11 after missing Nigeria’s March international friendlies due to a back injury, offering a timely boost for both club and country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The defender had initially been included in Nigeria’s squad for matches against Iran and Jordan but withdrew shortly before the fixtures, prompting concern given his importance to the national team. His absence came as a surprise, having completed the full 90 minutes in Fulham’s 3–1 Premier League victory over Burnley prior to the international break.

Medical assessments have since indicated that the injury is not serious. Bassey is expected to resume full training in early April and return to match action shortly thereafter, limiting his absence to the recent international window.

In his absence, Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle called up Chibuike Nwaiwu to provide defensive cover, ensuring continuity within the squad while offering an opportunity for other players to stake their claim.

Bassey’s anticipated return comes at a crucial stage of the season for Fulham. With the club out of the FA Cup and no immediate fixtures following the international break, the recovery period has allowed him adequate time to regain fitness.

He is expected to be available for Fulham’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Liverpool FC at Anfield, a key encounter as the team enters the decisive final stretch of the campaign.

The 26-year-old has been a mainstay in Fulham’s defence this season, featuring regularly in league matches and playing a central role in the team’s structure. His only significant absences previously came during the Africa Cup of Nations, underlining his importance whenever available.
