Bayelsa Queens, reigning champions of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, are on the brink of making history in African women’s football, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Having secured qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League, the Nigerian giants are now just a step away from potentially representing Africa on the global stage at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup in 2026.

The Yenagoa-based side will begin their journey at the WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire this month, where they must clinch a spot in the CAF Champions League.

The eventual winners of the continental tournament, slated for November 2025, will claim Africa’s sole ticket to the FIFA event.

The maiden FIFA Women’s Champions Cup will feature six continental champions, including Arsenal (UEFA), Gotham FC (CONCACAF), Wuhan Jiangda (AFC), and Auckland United (OFC).

Africa’s representative will be decided later this year. If Bayelsa Queens triumph in Africa’s premier women’s club competition, they will secure their place among the world’s elite, competing in a knockout-style tournament against the best from Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas.

The historic showdown will culminate with the grand final in February 2026.
