By Niyi Busari
Several clubs maintained their unbeaten and in some cases perfect records in Friday’s CAF Inter-Club competitions, while heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly were frustrated in their respective group-stage encounters, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Mamelodi Sundowns were forced to settle for a goalless draw against MC Alger in their CAF Champions League Group D fixture at the Ali La Pointe Stadium. The match marked a reunion between Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena and his former team, but neither side could find a breakthrough.
In Group B, Al Ahly were held to a 1-1 draw by AS FAR Rabat at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Mouchcine Bouriga opened the scoring for the Moroccan side before Trezeguet drew the defending champions level.
RS Berkane continued their strong start in Group A, securing a 2-1 away victory over Rivers United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to make it two wins from two matches.
Two-time African champions JS Kabylie remain winless in Group B after playing out a 0-0 draw with Young Africans at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Wydad AC preserved their perfect record with a narrow 1-0 win over Azam courtesy of Nordin Amarabat’s strike at the Amaan Stadium.
Al Masry also maintained their 100% start in Group D, clinching a 3-2 victory over Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in one of the evening’s most entertaining fixtures.
USM Alger rounded off the night’s action by keeping their flawless campaign intact. The Algerian giants defeated Olympique de Safi 1-0 at the El Massira Stadium, with Zakaria Draoui scoring the decisive goal.
