Big Sports Dialogue 1.0 Aims to Transform Nigeria’s Sports Economy – Organisers

The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Mr. Osaze Ebueku, has announced the launch of the Big Sports Dialogue 1.0: Reshaping Nigeria’s Sports Ecosystem, a landmark conference designed to reposition Nigeria’s sports industry as a catalyst for national development, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Scheduled for November 24, 2025, in Lagos, the event aims to bring together key players across the sports value chain including policymakers, investors, administrators, and media stakeholders to craft a sustainable roadmap for the future of Nigerian sports.

Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Ebueku emphasized the need to turn the nation’s sporting potential into measurable economic impact.

 “On November 24, Lagos will host the most consequential gathering of sports leaders, policymakers, investors, and media voices in Nigeria’s history,” he said. “Big Sports Dialogue 1.0 is not just a conference it’s a movement. Backed by the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), we are committed to transforming sports into a driver of growth, job creation, and national pride.”

Ebueku cited Nigeria’s vast sporting potential but lamented its limited contribution to the national economy. “From the roar of the Super Eagles to the global triumphs of our athletes, Nigeria’s talent and passion are undeniable. Yet, sports contributed just 0.33% to GDP in 2021 and 0.31% in 2020 a clear sign of underutilized promise. But today, we begin to change that narrative.”

The dialogue will focus on four major outcome areas:

Policy Reform: Development of a National Sports Blueprint to address infrastructure, funding, and governance challenges.

Private Sector Collaboration: Fostering partnerships between investors and innovators to support grassroots and elite development.

Athlete-Centered Development: Enhancing athlete welfare and post-career opportunities.

Media Engagement: Promoting sports achievements, highlighting challenges, and inspiring a new generation.

Among the high-profile speakers expected at the event are NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, former NFF President Amaju Pinnick, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, and renowned journalist Rufai Oseni. Other organisers include Jerome Obuninta, veteran sports journalist Sylvanus Ofekun, and broadcaster Aron Akerejola.

Big Sports Dialogue 1.0 is expected to be a defining moment for Nigeria’s sports industry, setting the tone for reforms that could unlock its full economic and social potential.
