Birmingham 2022 Fallout: Chioma Targets Discuss Gold At 2023 African Games In Accra

Team Nigeria Chioma Onyekwere says her next target is to win gold in the women's discuss the event of the 2023 African Games billed for Accra, Ghana reports BSNSports.com.ng.

Onyekwere who was crowned the 2022 Commonwealth Games women's discuss champion, described winning gold at her first attempt as a good testimony to her season.

A delighted Onyekwere who became the first Nigerian woman to clinch gold in discuss had a tournament to forget at the World Championships in Oregon after she failed to live up to expectations due to injury.

"I'm expecting more success for myself starting from next year, with the African Games in Ghana," she said.

"It's amazing because it is my first Commonwealth Games and getting a gold medal and personal best is a good testimony to my season.

"Earlier in the year it was quite difficult due to injury and it affected my performance at the World Championships but I'm happy that I was able to showcase my stuff here.

" I think it's time for Africa to shine and I'm looking forward to having more African nations on the medals table."
