Boniface Opens Up On Reason Behind His Strong Social Media Presence

Nigeria's Super Eagles and Werder Bremen striker, Victor Boniface, has shed light on why he maintains an active presence on social media despite criticism, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 23-year-old forward has recently faced backlash from fans who believe his online activities are distracting him amid a dip in form.

However, Boniface has clarified that his posts are simply a coping mechanism.

“I only post these things to distract myself a bit from everything else. It’s nothing serious,” he told the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger ahead of Bremen’s clash with 1. FC Köln on Saturday.

Boniface believes that the reason his posts now attract negative reactions is linked to his performance on the pitch, noting that he behaved similarly during his successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen.

“I did the same thing when I was in Leverkusen. I’ve used this exact caption before. The difference is back then, I scored goals, and we won everything. Nobody talked about it.”

He added that expectations in football are relentless, and players are constantly judged based on their most recent season.

 “In football, it’s like this: if you play well one season and score goals, everyone expects you to repeat that in exactly the same way the following season. Otherwise, people start talking,” he said.

Boniface has struggled to replicate his explosive form from last season but remains confident he will turn things around.
