Boxing Event in Ibadan Promotes Peace, Calls for End To Insecurity

Glorious Boxing Promotions on June 7 staged a boxing event themed “Fight Until The Killings Stop” at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, as part of efforts to raise awareness about insecurity and violent killings across Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The event attracted a large turnout of boxing enthusiasts and sports fans who gathered to witness an exciting mix of amateur and professional boxing contests while supporting a campaign advocating peace, unity and public safety.

The programme featured several amateur bouts that provided a platform for emerging talents to display their abilities, alongside seven professional contests that delivered thrilling action and entertained spectators throughout the evening.

Speaking on the motivation behind the initiative, Chief Executive Officer of Glorious Promotions, Ganiyu Oladayo, said the event was conceived as a means of using sport to draw attention to the growing challenge of insecurity in the country.

According to Oladayo, the “Fight Until The Killings Stop” campaign seeks to encourage collective action toward restoring peace and security in communities across Nigeria while demonstrating the positive role sports can play in driving social change.

Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), Hon. Gbenga Opaleye, commended the quality of the professional contests and praised the participating boxers for their discipline, determination and sportsmanship both inside and outside the ring.

Similarly, Chairperson of the Oyo State Amateur Boxing Association (OSABA), Edna Aiyegbeni, lauded the performances of the amateur fighters, noting that the contests showcased the depth of boxing talent within the state and highlighted the importance of grassroots competitions in nurturing future champions.

Many spectators also praised the organisers for successfully blending sporting entertainment with a strong social message. They noted that sports remain an effective platform for raising awareness, promoting dialogue and fostering national unity.

The successful staging of the event further underscored Glorious Promotions’ commitment to the development of boxing in Oyo State and Nigeria, while reinforcing its belief in the power of sport as a vehicle for advocacy and positive social transformation.

Oladayo expressed appreciation to boxing stakeholders, officials, fans and security agencies whose support contributed to the success of the programme. He also reiterated his call for an end to violence, killings and other criminal activities associated with insecurity across the country.
