Boxing Federation Seeks Police Intervention Over Alleged Unlawful Protest

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has filed a formal petition with the Lagos State Police Command over what it describes as a planned violent protest allegedly linked to leaders of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In the petition dated March 23, 2026, and signed by NBF Secretary General Vivian Azimene, the federation raised concerns about alleged unlawful activities by individuals associated with the NBBofC, including claims of mobilizing individuals purportedly posing as boxers to stage a protest.

According to the petition, the proposed demonstration is expected to take place at the boxing facility within the National Stadium Surulere. The NBF expressed fears that such a gathering could disrupt public order and pose risks to lives and property in the area.

The federation urged police authorities to investigate the allegations, prevent any unlawful assembly, and ensure adequate security around the stadium premises. It also called for appropriate legal action against those found culpable if any acts of violence, vandalism, or theft occur under the guise of protest.

The petition specifically mentioned Rafiu Ladipo and Remi Aboderin in connection with the alleged plans.

The development comes amid ongoing tensions between the NBF and the NBBofC, with the federation accusing the latter of attempting to incite members of the boxing community. The dispute is reportedly linked to recent reform efforts within the sport aligned with the agenda of the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the NBBofC regarding the allegations.
