Brazil Set U20 Goal Record After Thrashing Dominican Republic

By Eniola Olatunji

…Senegal rocks Group C bottom.

Samba Boys of Brazil on Wednesday night thrashed debutant Dominic Republic U20 6-0 to earn their first win and set scoring record at the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina.

The nearest achievement to this was the 4-0 blow handed to Fiji by Slovakia on the 20th of May in Group B.

Dominic Republic resisted Brazil for the first 35 minutes with their Goalkeeper, Xavier Derrig posting top class performance until the defence collapse like the German wall.

Utility player, Savio opened the score sheet for Brazil via a Biro assist in the 37th minute. Marcos Leonardo scored a brace again making a haul of four goals for him. He scored Brazil’s second goal of the night and in the 90+3 minute made the second goal via a Gomez assist. MM as he is called had scored Brazil’s brace in the 72nd and 87th minutes in the first round lost to Italy 2-3.

Carneiro Pedroso added the 3rd goal in the 57th after a Savio connection. Giovane scored the 4th goal in the 82nd minute from MM connection which completely brought frustration to the Dominican players as their Captain, Edison Azcona emerged the first bad boy (a terminology used for red carded players in football) of the tournament. Dominican team would have been reduced to 10 players but VAR saved Perlta from a straight red card in the 90+5th minute.

Kevin gave Gomes a thorough pass from the many mesmerizing dribble runs of the Brazilians and the 5th goal came in the 90+1st minute. Sign to start popping wine and flash warning to their next opponent, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria came in the 90+3rd minute when as said MM went rioting in front of the Dominican goal post and got the 6th goal.

So Group D table stands with Nigeria still at the top with 6 point shaving 4-1 goals chart; Brazil is second with 3 points having 8-3 goals chart; Italy has 3 points with 3-4 goals chart and Dominican Republic is out with no point and 1-8 goals chart. Now the implication is that

To conclude Group D, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria will on Saturday 27th May try the Samba Boys of Brazil for size at the Estadio Unico Diego Armando Maradona , La Plata while Italy will have to ensure no shocker from Dominican Republic Football team at the Stadium in Mendoza with both matches played simultaneously at 1900 hours before the group C matches is decided at 2200 hours.

In Group C Japan lost to Columbia 1-2. Yamane scored first for Japan in the 30th minute before Asprilla equalized for Columbia in the 53rd minute and Angel Gutierrez scored the winner for Columbia. Earlier Senegal had played a disappointing 1-1 draw with Israel.

Columbia heads Group C table with 6 points and 4-2 goals chart; Japan is second with 3 points and 2-2 goals chart; Israel is 3rd with 1 point and 2-3 goals chart while African Champions, Senegal is at the bottom with one point and 1-2 goals chart. Japan meets Israel and Senegal versus Columbia on Saturday at 2200 hours simultaneously.

Today, the 2nd Group rounds shall be concluded. England will meet Uruguay at 1900 hours in Group E while Iraq will face Tunisia in the same group E at 2200 hours. France will square up with top performing Scorpions of Gambia at 1900 hours in Group F while South Korea will tackle Honduras at 2200 hours in the same group.
