Breaking! Ex-Sports Minister Is Dead

Former Sports Minister, Alhaji Buba Ahmed is dead on Tuesday in Kano State, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

BSN Sports reports that Buba Ahmed was the Minister of Sports in 1983 under President Shehu Shagari when Nigeria U20 team, Flying Eagles qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup.

The team were the first Nigerian side to qualify for any FIFA organised tournament and for achieving that landmark feat, the government of the day then, offered all the players, who were mostly students, scholarship to study at any tertiary institution of their choice. Though the government failed to redeem the scholarship promise.

Buba Ahmed will be buried today in Kano according to Islamic rites.
