Breaking! FIFA Confirms Nigeria Participation In 2026 Tournament
By Our Reporter
Nigeria has been officially confirmed as one of the participating nations for the 2026 FIFAe Nations League following the release of the qualified countries by world football governing body FIFA, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The upcoming season will feature competitions across three divisions: eFootball (console), eFootball (mobile), and Rocket League. According to FIFA, 115 countries secured qualification in the console category, 81 in mobile, and 84 in Rocket League. Nigeria earned places in all three divisions, underlining the country’s growing presence in global esports football.
The confirmation offers Nigeria a renewed opportunity to compete on the international stage after falling short of a place at the 2025 FIFAe World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The Nigerian team exited that tournament at the quarter-final stage following defeat to South Africa.
Meanwhile, attention also remains on FIFA’s pending decision regarding a petition filed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) against Fédération Congolaise de Football Association over alleged player eligibility issues during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff encounter. DR Congo prevailed on penalties to advance to the intercontinental playoffs.
Should FIFA rule in Nigeria’s favour, the Super Eagles could be reinstated into the playoff stage. For now, however, the country’s confirmed participation in the FIFAe Nations League provides a significant boost to Nigeria’s ambitions within the rapidly expanding esports landscape.
