Buhari Confers National Awards On Athletes Gift Cash To Team Nigeria

Nigeria President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (RTD) conffered national awards on 17 athletes and gift Two hundred million (N200m) to Team Nigeria to medallists at the just-concluded Commonwealth Games.

Buhari made this announcement on Thursday 15th, September, during the Presidential Reception of Team Nigeria to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and World Athletics Championship in USA.

For the first time in the history of Nigeria, four athletes were honoured with the Officer of The Order of Niger (OON). The athletes are; Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Blessing Oborududu and Fumilayo Folashade. The gold medallists who fell on Category A of the Awards were also gifted Four Million and Five hundred thousand naira each (N4.5m).

In Category B which also contained gold medallists with MON Awards with N4.5 Million cash gift are; Odunayo Adekuoroye, Onywkwere Chioma, Nwachukwu Goodness Njideka Iyiazi, Ofili Favour, Lawal Afolashade, Genesis Mercy. Atheletes who won silver medals fell in Category C, and were honoured with Federal Republic Medal Class 1 with cash gift of N2.5m while Category D (bronze medalist) were honoured with Federal Republic Medal Class 2 with One Million and five hundred thousand naira (N1.5m).
