The coach of the German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso, has opened up on the reason Nigeria's Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface was in action on Saturday against Werder Bremen, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

As of Friday morning, the Nigerian international was doubtful for the game due to the minor injury he sustained in a car accident.

Boniface started the game and scored the opening goal in the 2-2 draw.

Alonso said Boniface trained very well on Friday and was fit enough to play the game.

"Boniface trained well on Friday, so we decided that he would start".

" He scored a goal. Hopefully, the car accident is no longer an issue, and we can talk about football", he told Kicker.

Boniface has scored 8 goals and registered one assist in 11 appearances across all competitions this season.
