Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface enjoyed a bright start to life at Werder Bremen, helping his new club seal an emphatic 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Boniface, who completed a summer loan move from Bayer Leverkusen, made his debut at the Weserstadion when he replaced Romano Schmid in the 75th minute.
Just six minutes later, he made an instant impact by setting up teammate Njimah for Bremen’s fourth goal, calmly laying the ball off after a strong run down the right flank.
Werder Bremen had already put themselves in a commanding position before the Nigerian entered the fray.
Mbangula opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a composed finish following a sweeping counterattack.
Twelve minutes later, Jen Stengen doubled the advantage, firing home from the edge of the box after a clever cut-back from Marvin Ducksch.
As the visitors pushed for a response, Bremen’s solid defensive unit kept them at bay, and the hosts struck again in the 76th minute through Romano, whose low drive left the Mönchengladbach goalkeeper with no chance.
Boniface’s assist for Njimah moments later capped a fine display from Ole Werner’s men, who bounced back to winning ways after recent stumbles in the league.
The lively cameo underlined why Bremen were keen to add Boniface to their attacking options.
The 23-year-old forward hopes his impressive debut is a sign of things to come as the club continues its push for a strong Bundesliga campaign.
With the convincing win, Werder Bremen climbed up the table and gave their fans plenty of reasons to believe brighter days lie ahead this season.
