Burton Albion have commended the management of Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) over their tour of UK to improve the standard of the league.
Burton Albion in their press release made this known. "BURTON Albion welcomed a group of Nigerian football visitors to the Pirelli Stadium when we played Bradford City in the Papa Johns Trophy.
"The group was representing 365 small football clubs in Nigeria where football is a hugely important sport, and is touring the UK looking to find out more about the British game and to export best practice back to Africa.
The group has already visited Sheffield United and MK Dons.
One of the visitors, Shola Ogunnowo Chief Operating Officer of Nigeria NationWide League One, said: “We are happy to be here and see the tremendous development of this football club and we are delighted that the Chairman has welcomed us as representatives of Nigerian lower league clubs.
“We have been told about player development from aged seven, eight, nine which is very encouraging and the way the Academy operates and how the players progress to the senior men’s team which is very encouraging.
“Nigeria has the highest number of trophies in age group competitions in FIFA which shows how many people want to play football and the huge potential.â€
After the game the group was introduced to Brewers first teamers Victor Adeboyejo and Deji Oshilaja both of whom have Nigerian roots and also met manager Dino Maamria and Chairman Ben Robinson during their visit.
