President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Hamad Kalkaba, has announced plans to provide international scholarships and enhanced training opportunities for African athletes, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Kalkaba made this known during a press conference marking the end of the third African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships in Abeokuta.

He stated that the CAA is actively collaborating with global sports institutions to support emerging talents, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.

“We have established partnerships with several sports development bodies, including the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa,” Kalkaba said.

“Through these collaborations, we will offer scholarships to athletes across the continent and facilitate their training at international centres.”

On future hosting rights, Kalkaba revealed that Ghana and Botswana are set to host the Senior African Championships in 2026 and 2028, respectively.

Meanwhile, Algeria has been confirmed as the host for the 2027 edition of the U-18/U-20 Championships.
