Egyptian sides Zamalek SC and Al Masry SC secured their places in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup following decisive victories on the final day of Group D action, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Heading into Matchday Six, Zamalek, Al Masry and Kaizer Chiefs were separated by just a single point, with two knockout spots up for grabs. By the end of a tense evening, the Egyptian clubs emerged triumphant. Zamalek topped the group with 11 points, while Al Masry advanced as runners-up on 10 — edging Chiefs on goal difference. ZESCO United finished bottom with three points.

Zamalek 2–1 Kaizer Chiefs

At the Suez Canal Stadium, Zamalek produced a composed second-half display to defeat Kaizer Chiefs 2–1 in a high-stakes encounter.

After a cautious first half, Juan Bezerra broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, finishing confidently to put the hosts ahead. Zamalek asserted greater control as the contest progressed and doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute through Abdallah El Said’s clinical strike.

Chiefs responded swiftly, with Glody Lobibo reducing the deficit three minutes later to set up a nervy finale. The South African side pressed forward in search of a decisive equaliser, but Zamalek’s defence held firm to secure a crucial victory and confirm top spot in the group.

Al Masry 2–0 Zesco United

In Port Said, Al Masry delivered under pressure, overcoming Zesco United 2–0 to clinch second place.

The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute when substitute Karim Bambo capitalised on an opportunity shortly after his introduction. As Zesco pushed forward in response, spaces opened up for the hosts, and Salah Mohsen sealed the result with a composed finish in the 81st minute.

Al Masry’s win lifted them level on points with Kaizer Chiefs but ahead on goal difference — a slender margin that ultimately proved decisive in the race for qualification.

With their quarter-final places secured, Zamalek and Al Masry now shift focus to the knockout phase as they seek to extend their continental campaigns.
