CAF CL: Flood Lights Turned Off As Rivers United Denied Access To Training In Casablanca

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Rivers United were unable to have their obligatory access to the pitch of Mohammed V Stadium to have their training ahead of today's CAF Champions League Second leg tie with Wydad Casablanca.

The Pride of Rivers who landed in Morocco in the late hours of Thursday had secured a facility for training on Friday afternoon in preparation for the game.

However, in the process of leaving for the training session, Rivers United alleged that police officers restricted the players and officials from leaving the hotel citing not getting clearance from the government, in spite of the facility being paid for.

As if that was not enough, Rivers United were duly scheduled to train at the Mohammed V Stadium on Saturday ahead of Sunday's match as mandated by CAF, but, on a good account the team have been prevented from using the said facility by turning off the lights inside the Stadium.

The team on its official Twitter handle wrote, "Players and officials of Rivers United have departed the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca without having their training session. The floodlights inside the stadium was turned off by officials of Wydad AC. The Match Commissioner for the game was present and witnessed all that transpired." In a 59 seconds video attached to the tweet, it confirmed that all lights at the Stadium were turned off with no Stadium Management on ground to help put on the lights.

Rivers are going into the Second leg match with a 2-1 advantage. The champions are the only Nigeria team in the CAF Champions League.
