CAF CL: Plateau United Edge Stande Mandji To Set-Up Esperance Clash

Nigeria's Plateau United expectedly completed their assignment against Gabonese champions Stande Mandji on Sunday and progressed to the next round of the Champions League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian side far away in Franceville last weekend played out a 2-2 draw against the Gabonese side and the away goal put them in the driving seat for the second.

Expectedly, the away side proved too difficult in a game keenly contested at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja and the first half ended in a goalless affair.

The Nigeria Professional Football League runners-up returned as the better side in the second half and their efforts paid off in the 63rd minute as Haggai Katoh headed in the only goal of the match.

All the efforts of both sides to score proved abortive in the remainder of the match as Plateau United progressed via 3-2 on aggregate.

With the victory, Plateau United will face former African champions Esperance of Tunisia in the next round of the qualifier.
