CAF CL: Rivers United Trounce Watanga FC In Port-Harcourt

Nigeria's champions Rivers United started their journey in the CAF Champions League on a good note as they thrashed visiting Watanga FC of Liberia, BSNSports.com. reports.
The 'Pride of Rivers rose to expectations as they control proceedings from the blast of the whistle and they almost scored twice in the 5th minute before Kenechukwu Agu finally opened the scoring in the 8th minute.
Despite scoring early, the Nigeria side continue to pile pressure on the Liberian side and they were able to score the second in the 18th minute through a 20-yard shot from Ebube Duru off an assist from Paul Acquah.
Acquah netted the 3rd goal on the dot of halftime and ensured that the host returned to the locker room with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Watanga returned for the second half with an improved performance trying to curtail the foray of Rivers United's attackers.
Nyima Nwagua almost increase the lead for the host but Watanga's goalkeeper Derek did enough to stop his effort.
Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma made substitutions especially in the attack to increase the tally but Watanga resulted in defending in order not to concede more goals.
The host was unable to increase its tally as the game ended 3-0.
The second leg is slated for Sam Kenyon Stadium in Monrovia with the Nigeria side hoping to protect their three goals advantage.
