CAF Champions League: Rivers United Arrive Mozambique For Black Bulls Showdown

 Rivers United will arrive in Maputo, Mozambique on Thursday having departed Nigeria on Wednesday as they prepare to face Black Bulls in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second round tie, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The contingent, comprising players and technical officials, travelled from Port Harcourt to Lagos on Tuesday and will fly out of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport en route to Mozambique.

The highly anticipated first-leg encounter is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, at the Campo da ABB Stadium in Maputo. The return leg will take place one week later at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.

The winner of the two-legged fixture will progress to the CAF Champions League group stage, where the continent’s top clubs compete for the prestigious title and significant prize money.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Namibian referee Mr. Negongo Mweshitsama Naftal to officiate the first leg in Maputo. He will be assisted by compatriots Alex Muzibwene Lumponjani (Assistant Referee 1) and Hangula Velinoma Angula (Assistant Referee 2), with Fillipus Hanyemunange Nghilinganye serving as fourth official.

Suleiman Othman of Zanzibar has been named the match commissioner.

Rivers United, one of Nigeria’s remaining representatives in the CAF Champions League, will be aiming to secure a favourable result in the away leg to strengthen their chances of advancing to the lucrative group stage.
