CAF Champions League: South African Embassy Frustrates Remo Stars Ahead Of Mamelodi Sundowns Clash

Remo Stars’ preparations for their crucial CAF Champions League clash against Mamelodi Sundowns have been thrown into disarray following delays from the South African Embassy in processing their travel visas, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Out of the 43 visa applications submitted by the Nigerian club for processing, only 26 passports were returned on Wednesday and shockingly, just 12 of them belong to players.

The Sky Blue Stars were scheduled to depart Nigeria by 1 a.m. on Thursday for Pretoria, but the club has now been forced to cancel and reschedule their flight as well as their hotel reservations due to the incomplete visa approvals.

According to reports, Remo Stars had submitted their visa applications as early as October 10, 2025, in compliance with CAF’s travel guidelines for international club competitions.

However, the delay from the South African authorities has disrupted the club’s travel and match preparations, raising concerns ahead of the high-stakes encounter.

The first-leg tie against the reigning African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, is expected to take place this weekend, but uncertainty now surrounds Remo Stars’ travel plans as they await the remaining visas for players and officials.

This is not the first time Nigerian clubs have faced bureaucratic hurdles when traveling for continental assignments, and the incident once again highlights the logistical challenges confronting teams on the African stage.
