CAF Champions League Preview: Can Rivers United Recover In Uyo Against RS Berkane?
By Niyi Busari
Rivers United will aim to revive their CAF Champions League campaign when they host Morocco’s Renaissance Sportive de Berkane in a crucial Group A fixture on Friday, 28 November, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigerian side endured a challenging start to the group stage, falling 3–0 to Pyramids FC in Cairo despite showing moments of resilience. Head coach Evans Ogenyi and his squad now face the task of securing their first points in the group against a seasoned RS Berkane team.
The Moroccan visitors arrive in Uyo in strong form, having opened their campaign with a commanding 3–0 win over Zambia’s Power Dynamos. RS Berkane, three-time CAF Confederation Cup champions, carry both experience and pedigree, making them one of the most formidable opponents in the group.
CAF has appointed Senegalese referee Issa Sy to officiate the match, supported by assistants Djibril Camara and Nouha Bangoura, while El Hadji Amadou Sy serves as fourth official. Bakary K. Jammeh of Gambia has been designated as match commissioner.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (Nigeria time), with Rivers United fans hopeful that home advantage and renewed determination will help the “Pride of Nigeria” ignite their group-stage campaign.
