CAF Confirms Marrakech and Rabat As Host Of CAF Women's Champions League

Marrakech and Rabat have been confirmed as the two venues that will host the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League from 30 October to 13 November 2022. 

The matches will be played at Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium (Rabat) and Grand Stade in Marrakech. 

The final of the tournament will take place in the mythical Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the same venue that hosted the final of the TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 on 23 July in Rabat. 

Eight clubs will take part in Africa's biggest women club football competition. 

The group A includes hosts ASFAR (Morocco), Simba Queens SC (Tanzania), Green Buffaloes (Zambia) and Determine Girls (Liberia) while the group B comprises Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Bayelsa Queens (Nigeria), Wadi Degla (Egypt) and TP Mazembe (DR Congo). 

ABOUT THE VENUES:

Grand Stade Marrakech (Marrakech) 

Opened in 2011, the Grand Stade de Marrakech is a 45,000-seat stadium with a natural grass pitch. 

The inaugural match played in the Grand Stade Marrakech was a friendly interclub match between Wydad Athletic Club (Morocco) and Paris-St Germain (France) which ended in a 1-1 draw. In 2013 and 2014, the stadium hosted the FIFA Club World Cups. It was also one of the venues for the 2018 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship in Morocco. 

Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Complex (Rabat) 

With a capacity of 12,000 seats, the stadium was built in 2003 and renovated in 2012. Located in Hay Nahda, the stadium hosts matches of FUS de Rabat, one of the most successful clubs in the Kingdom, winner of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2010. 

The Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium hosted some of the best matches of the last TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, including the titanic match between South Africa and Nigeria in the group stage and South Africa vs Tunisia in the quarter-finals. 

Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium (Rabat) 

With a capacity of 45,000 seats, the stadium located in the south-west of Rabat is the venue that hosted the largest attendance for a women's football match on the continent. On 23 July, the Moulay Abdallah stadium was sold out for the final of the Women's AFCON between Morocco and South Africa, a match won by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana (2-1).
