CAF Decision Upturning Final Result Should Not Break Our Relationship With Morocco – Senegal Legend Warns
Sampson Adedeji
Former Senegal international Khalilou Fadiga has called for calm following the controversy surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations final, urging that the situation should not damage the long-standing relationship between Senegal and Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Tensions have escalated between both nations after the tournament’s appeal committee reportedly stripped Senegal’s Teranga Lions of the title and awarded it to Morocco, a decision that has sparked widespread reactions across the continent.
Reacting to the development, Fadiga appealed for restraint, stressing the importance of preserving the strong cultural and historical ties between the two countries.
“I prefer to leave football aside. The Moroccan people are friendly, and this should not tarnish our fraternal relationship,” he said.
The former winger further emphasized unity over rivalry, noting that football disputes should not overshadow the deep-rooted bond shared by both nations.
“I prefer to talk about our shared history, about the love we have for one another,” he added in an interview with RMC.
The development has continued to generate debate within African football, with stakeholders closely monitoring how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
