CAF Executive Committee Member Apologises To Morocco

A member of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samir Sobha, has apologised to Morocco following a controversial incident involving the country’s national team, the Morocco national football team, popularly known as the Atlas Lions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Sobha admitted that procedural errors were made during the match in question and acknowledged that Morocco suffered an injustice under the competition’s regulations.

“I want to beg the Moroccan Federation to forgive us for the injustice done to them,” Sobha said. “The rules were not respected as they should have been in this match.

 They were robbed. It’s clear. After the Senegalese team left the field, all the players should have received a yellow card.”

Despite his admission, the CAF official clarified that he was not advocating for a reversal of the result or stripping the Senegal national football team of the title.

“I’m not saying we shouldn’t give the trophy to Senegal. What happened, happened; we can’t change that,” he added.

 “But we have to put our egos aside and recognise that an injustice was done to the Moroccan national team. After studying the rules of the competition, I’m certain my position is correct.”

The comments have sparked renewed debate over officiating standards and disciplinary enforcement in CAF competitions, with calls for stricter adherence to regulations to prevent similar controversies in future tournaments.
