CAF Hammer Falls On Sundowns Ahead Of Champions League Final

African football governing body, the Confederation of African Football, has fined Mamelodi Sundowns $100,000 over safety and security breaches recorded during their CAF Champions League clash against Stade Malien in Tshwane, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

CAF announced that the sanctions followed several violations observed during the encounter, including overcrowding, poor crowd-control measures, blocked gangways, unauthorised items entering the stadium, and shortcomings in the accreditation process.

The continental body also issued a stern warning to the South African side, stressing that any repeat of such incidents could attract more severe punishment in the future.

According to CAF, harsher sanctions may include matches being played behind closed doors if the club fails to address the identified security lapses.

The development comes as Sundowns continue preparations for the CAF Champions League final, with the latest disciplinary action expected to place additional pressure on the club’s management to improve matchday organisation and safety standards.
