CAF Must Follow The Rules To End AFCON Final Controversy – Chelle Insists

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strictly adhere to the rules in order to resolve the controversy surrounding the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The AFCON final has continued to generate intense debate despite a ruling by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee. Morocco have reportedly appealed the decision, while Senegal accepted the verdict, a development that has kept the controversy alive across the continent.

Speaking on the situation, Chelle stressed that clarity and strict application of the laws of the game are the only ways to restore credibility and end the ongoing arguments.

“What are the rules? I’m not taking sides,” Chelle said.

 “As a player, if I leave the field to get a drink of water on the bench, it’s a yellow card. When you deliberately leave, there’s a penalty.”

The Super Eagles boss further emphasized that consistent enforcement of regulations is essential for the integrity of African football.

“Whatever happens, decisions have to be made, and to make them, you have to know the rules and apply them. That way, we can put an end to all the controversy,” he added.

Chelle’s comments add to growing calls for CAF to ensure transparency, consistency, and firm application of its regulations in order to maintain trust in officiating and governance of African football competitions.
