CAF Opens Bidding for 2028 AFCON As Ethiopia, Morocco, And Botswana-South Africa Joint Bid Emerge

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially launched the bidding process for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with three strong contenders now in the running to host the continent’s premier football tournament, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to CAF announcements, the confederation received official bids by the February 2026 deadline from Ethiopia, Morocco, and a joint bid submitted by Botswana and South Africa.

This marks the beginning of a new four-year hosting cycle for the AFCON, as CAF seeks to modernize and expand the organization of the competition. 

Bidding was opened for the 2028, 2032, and 2036 editions, requiring formal government guarantees and detailed bid documents.
