By Sampson Adedeji
The president of the African soccer governing body, Patrice Motsepe, has refused to confirm the date for the 2025 African Cup of Nations that will be staged in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The North African country earlier in the week through its president Fouza Lekja caused some controversy when he announced that the event would take place in the summer of 2025.
The World Soccer ruling body will be having its maiden edition of the Club World Cup for 32 clubs in the summer of 2025.
And speculation is already ongoing that AFCON may be moved to the winter of 2026.
African football supremo on Friday during a press conference in Abidjan refused to confirm the time of the biennial competition.
" There are a lot of competing events at the same time but we are confident that…it is indeed going to be around that time,†Motsepe said when asked if the competition would go ahead in 2025 as planned.
“We have to accommodate other competing competitions but the AFCON next year is going to be an immense success and we will make further announcements in due course", he added.
