CAF President Warns Member Associations On Mismanagement Of Funds

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has strongly cautioned officials in its member federations against misappropriating or mismanaging monies intended for football development.

In the midst of a continuing financial scandal within the South African Football Association (SAFA), CAF President Patrice Motsepe stressed the organization’s dedication to eliminating corruption from African football while addressing in Johannesburg.

“As the President of CAF, I must first respect the disciplinary structures within the organization — including our Disciplinary Board and Appeals Committee, as well as FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS),” Motsepe stated.

He also underscored the importance of honoring the legal frameworks of individual African nations:

“Clean governance is critical. In several countries, I’ve seen FA presidents imprisoned.

”My message is clear — bring them before a court and let the legal system decide their fate. Justice must be transparent and fair.”

Motsepe reiterated that football must be seen as a public asset.

“It belongs to the people and to the nation,” he said.

“We must always be willing to make significant sacrifices for its growth. I’m closely observing every country — accountability is non-negotiable.”
