Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has reaffirmed the governing body's support for Somali referee Omar Artan after the official was unable to officiate at the FIFA World Cup following the denial of a United States visa, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking on the issue, Motsepe described Artan as Africa's leading referee and insisted that CAF would continue to stand behind him despite the setback.

"Omar Artan is the best referee in Africa, and we will continue to support him despite the United States' decision to deny him entry into the country for the World Cup," Motsepe said.

The visa refusal prevented Artan from participating in football's biggest tournament, a development that has drawn attention across the African football community.

By publicly expressing his confidence in the Somali official, Motsepe sought to reinforce CAF's faith in the quality and professionalism of African referees despite the circumstances surrounding Artan's absence from the competition.

The CAF president's remarks also serve as a message of reassurance to match officials across the continent, underlining the federation's commitment to supporting its referees on the international stage.

CAF maintains that it will continue to promote and protect its top officiating talent, regardless of administrative or geopolitical challenges that may affect their participation in global competitions.
