The Referee Committee of the Confederation of African Football is once again under intense scrutiny following controversial officiating in the first leg of the CAF Champions League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman have lodged an official complaint to CAF over the performance of South African referee Abongile Tom during their clash against RS Berkane.

In a formal letter submitted to the continental body, Al Hilal accused the referee of biased officiating, claiming several key decisions had a direct impact on the outcome of the encounter.

The club cited multiple contentious incidents, including four yellow cards issued to their players, a red card shown to defender Ebuela, and a late penalty awarded to RS Berkane in the closing stages of the match.

Al Hilal further stated that they have compiled and submitted video evidence of the disputed decisions as part of their protest, urging CAF to thoroughly review the officiating and take appropriate action.

The latest development adds to growing concerns over refereeing standards in CAF competitions, with stakeholders increasingly calling for improved officiating and accountability across the continent.
