CAF Sanctions: "Don’t Organize Fundraising For Me" – Senegal Coach Breaks Silence

The head coach of the Teranga Lions of Senegal, Pape Thiaw, has urged supporters across the country not to organize any fundraising campaigns on his behalf following the sanctions imposed on him by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Thiaw was heavily fined by CAF on Thursday after being found guilty of misconduct during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Morocco, in a match that ended amid controversy and disciplinary actions.

In a heartfelt message to the Senegalese public, the coach expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received since the announcement of the sanctions but insisted that no financial assistance should be raised in his name.

“People of Senegal, my family. Your solidarity since the announcement of the sanctions touches me deeply".

" Thank you for the love you show me every day. However, I humbly ask you not to organize fundraising campaigns in my name. 

"While I understand and appreciate this outpouring of generosity, I urge you to redirect these funds to more urgent causes, for the benefit of those who truly need them,” Thiaw wrote.

The statement has been widely praised as a show of humility and leadership, with many fans commending the Senegal coach for putting national welfare above personal concerns, despite the heavy sanctions hanging over him.

CAF’s disciplinary measures followed a series of incidents in the heated AFCON 2025 final, which also saw sanctions imposed on players, officials, and both national football federations involved.
