CAF Secretary General Clears Air On AFCON 2027
Sampson Adedeji
The acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has dismissed concerns surrounding the hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), reaffirming that preparations remain on course, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Speculation had emerged in recent weeks suggesting that the tournament could be stripped from its co-hosts Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda due to reported delays in infrastructure readiness and overall preparations.
However, following an inspection visit by CAF officials to the three East African nations, Adamu moved to calm fears, insisting that there is no cause for alarm regarding the tournament’s staging.
Speaking on Thursday, the CAF official expressed confidence in the progress made so far and the commitment of the host nations to deliver a successful competition.
“Nothing to worry about. Everything is on track for the 2027 AFCON. We have everything necessary to make the competition successful,” Adamu stated.
The 2027 AFCON is expected to mark a historic moment as it will be jointly hosted by the three East African countries, signaling a significant step in regional collaboration in African football.
