CAF Set To Postpone AFCON 2027

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is considering postponing the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to updates from the football governing body’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The proposed postponement is linked to CAF’s recent adjustment to the tournament calendar, which is expected to align the competition on a four-year cycle, with the first edition under the new arrangement slated for 2028.

As a result of the calendar shift, CAF officials are said to be concerned that no host nation is fully prepared to stage the tournament in 2027 as originally scheduled.

Consequently, CAF is already weighing plans to move the 2027 AFCON to 2028. The tournament was earlier awarded to be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.

A final decision is expected to be communicated by CAF in the coming months after consultations with the three host nations and other key stakeholders.
