CAF Throws Out Zambia FA Petition For Replay Of 2022 WAFCON Semi-Final Tie
Our Reporter
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has thrown out the Zambian Football Association petition of demand to replay the WAFCON 2022 semi-final game between South Africa's Banyana Banyana and Shepolopolo.
BSNSports.com.ng gathered on Tuesday evening that the petition was 'unceremoniously' thrown out in a hearing, as CAF cited a technicality in the case, and cannot be considered.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) had on Monday filled a complaint to Africa soccer governing body over what it perceived as biased officiating against it's women's soccer team Shepolopolo.
The Cooper Queens lost narrowly to South Africa in a game marred by controversies. FAZ faulted the Ethiopian centre referee Lidya Tafesse Abebe for awarding a dubious penalty to Banyana Banyana, with the help of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Highlighting six key incidents from the game in the petition letter, FAZ then appealed to have the penalty cancelled and the game be replayed.
With the petition, now thrown under the carpet by CAF for lacking merit, the Shepolopolo of Zambia will now shift attention on nine times champions Super Falcons in the loser's final slated for Friday in Casablanca.
