CAF To Decide On WAFCON 2026 Next Week

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to take a decisive position next week on the future of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to sources, CAF’s Executive Committee will determine whether the tournament will go ahead as scheduled in Morocco, be postponed to a later date, or be reassigned to another host nation.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is currently slated to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026. 

However, uncertainty has surrounded the tournament following widespread rumours of Morocco’s possible withdrawal from hosting responsibilities.

South Africa has reportedly intervened in the situation, expressing readiness to step in and host the competition if Morocco is unable to proceed. 

The intervention is seen as part of efforts to salvage the tournament and prevent disruption to the continental women’s football calendar.

CAF is expected to issue an official decision after its Executive Committee meeting, with three main options on the table: proceed with the tournament in Morocco as planned, approve a postponement if requested by the host nation, or reassign hosting rights to South Africa should Morocco be unable to deliver the event as scheduled.

A formal announcement from CAF is anticipated next week, which will provide clarity for participating nations, teams, and stakeholders across African women’s football.
