By Niyi Busari
The semi-final stage of the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is set, with South Africa facing Nigeria, while hosts Egypt will take on Morocco in a highly anticipated North African showdown.
South Africa edged the Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 to secure a place in the final four, setting up a clash with seven-time African champions Nigeria. The Flying Eagles advanced after a tense quarter-final against defending champions Senegal, ultimately winning 3-1 in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regulation time.
Egypt booked their semi-final spot in dramatic fashion, surviving a spirited Ghanaian comeback. The hosts surrendered a two-goal lead but held their nerve in the penalty shootout to win 5-4 after a 2-2 draw.
Morocco also progressed with a narrow 1-0 win over Sierra Leone, ensuring both North African sides remain in the hunt for the continental crown.
With these results, Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco have all secured qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, earning the four African slots at the global tournament.
The semi-final fixtures are scheduled for Thursday. Nigeria will take on South Africa at 6:00 PM local time (4:00 PM Nigeria time), while Morocco will face Egypt in the second semi-final at 9:00 PM.
