CAF Warns NFF, Rangers, Rivers United, Others Ahead Of 2026/27 Interclub Season

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a stern warning to member associations, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), regarding the licensing of clubs for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

CAF stated that all clubs seeking participation in its interclub competitions must have no outstanding financial debts before they can be granted licenses. 

The continental football governing body stressed that member associations must thoroughly verify the financial status of their clubs before approving their participation.

According to CAF, any club found to have outstanding debts after being licensed could face disciplinary sanctions.

 The federation that approved such a club may also be held accountable and subjected to penalties.

CAF further warned that serious violations of its club licensing regulations could result in clubs losing their places in the Champions League or Confederation Cup.

The directive serves as a reminder that strict financial compliance will be a key requirement for the 2026/27 season.

Nigeria will be represented by Rangers International and Rivers United in the CAF Champions League, while Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and the winner of the Federation Cup are expected to feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The latest warning places additional responsibility on the NFF to ensure that all qualified Nigerian clubs meet CAF's financial requirements before the commencement of continental competitions.
