Nigeria representative Rivers United started its campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage on the wrong foot as they suffered a heavy defeat in Congo, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

It was a tough start for the Pride of Rivers as they conceded 3 goals in the first half of the game.

Wunda put Noirs ahead in the 30th minute after putting the Nigerian side under intense pressure.

Ngombe doubled their lead three minutes later before the third goal was scored by Massoumou in the 39th minute.

The Nigeria champions improved their game in the second half and got a penalty but the home goalkeeper guessed right to stop Ebube Duru's penalty and the game ended 3-0 in favour of the Congolese.
