Yemi Olanrewaju of Enyimba FC said his team were lucky to have scaled through to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The People's Elephants secured passage to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Etoile Filante 3-2 on penalities in Uyo after both legs in the second preliminary round ended goalless. In his post-match reactions, Olanrewaju decried the missed chances from his players saying that they were lucky to escape. While commending the massive support from the people of Akwa Ibom State, he gave credit to his backroom staff for achieving the great feat in his first stint as Head Coach of the Aba Landlords. "I wish we could have ended the game before the penalities considering the chances we missed. We are lucky to escape and we can't go the next stage like this. If we are to progress to the quarter finals, we must take our chances. "There was a bit of anxiety from the lads and there were in a hurry for everything. We were not calm in the final third. We are lucky to have scaled through and get to the group stage. "I want to give the credit to all my backroom staff and the players. Pushing them to this level and achieving this, it's great and for me personally, I am not the type of Coach that is after ambition, I think about the team first. I feel great and I have always wanted to coach at a top level. "I was impressed with the support we got from Akwa Ibom people. This is massive and something encouraging."
