CAFCC: Kwara United's Opponent Asante Kotoko Hit By Injury Setback

Asante Kotoko, the Ghanaian powerhouse set to face Nigeria's Kwara United in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, have been hit by a significant injury blow ahead of the new season's domestic and continental campaigns, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Ghana Premier League giants will be without two key forwards, Peter Amidu Acquah and Elvis Kyei Baffour, for at least six weeks due to ankle injuries sustained during pre-season training in Cape Coast, Ghana. The injuries mean both players will miss the start of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, which kicks off on September 12.

Kotoko, who lifted last season's Ghana FA Cup, will meet Kwara United in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

A statement from the club confirmed the blow: "We have been dealt a double setback ahead of the second phase of our pre-season in Cape Coast. Wingers Peter Amidu Acquah and Elvis Kyei Baffour have both been ruled out for six weeks with ankle injuries. Medical assessments conducted by our team show that the duo will likely miss the start of the new season."

Asante Kotoko is scheduled to host Kwara United in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie on September 19 and 21, with the return leg set for September 26 to 28.

If Kotoko progresses past Kwara United, they will face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round. The first leg of that tie is set for October 17 and 19, with the return leg scheduled for October 24 to 26.
