CAFCL: Al Ahly Reports Referee To CAF, Causes Debates

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have officially lodged a complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against Senegalese referee Issa Sy following their recent CAF Champions League clash with Aigle Noir, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Cairo-based club is calling for the cancellation of the red card issued to Nejc Gradisar, arguing that the decision was unjust and negatively impacted the outcome of the match. In their submission to CAF, Al Ahly included video footage to support their claim, highlighting several contentious officiating moments.

This move has sparked widespread debate across the African football community, with opinions divided on whether Al Ahly’s action was justified or excessive.

Notably, this is not the first time the record African champions have taken such a step. A few years ago, Al Ahly reported Botswana’s referee Joshua Bondo to CAF after a controversial game, which ultimately led to the referee receiving a six-month suspension.

The club’s latest complaint once again underscores growing concerns over the standard of officiating in CAF competitions and the increasing scrutiny on referees at the continental level.
