CAFCL: FC Pyramids Coach Reveals Club Struggles, Targets Victory In Uyo
Sampson Adedeji
Ahead of their Matchday 5 CAF Champions League clash against Rivers United, FC Pyramids head coach Kryzstov Juric has opened up on the challenges facing his side while insisting the Egyptian champions remain focused on securing victory, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The defending African champions will take on Rivers United on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with Pyramids already qualified for the knockout stage but still pushing to finish top of their group.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Juric admitted that fixture congestion has taken a toll on his squad.
“Pyramids FC is suffering greatly from fixture congestion, having played several domestic and continental matches in a very short period, including trips to Morocco and Nigeria, as well as travel within Egypt. This is negatively impacting the players,” he said.
The coach also revealed that the team travelled to Nigeria with a depleted squad due to injuries and the need to rest some players, but maintained that the objective remains victory.
“The team arrived in Nigeria with a large number of absences due to injuries or rest, but despite this, they must play to win the match".
"It is also an opportunity for the coaching staff to give chances to players who haven’t featured much recently, as well as the new signings, to prepare everyone for the upcoming encounters.”
Juric stressed that the match against Rivers United remains crucial despite qualification already being secured.
“Despite qualifying for the next round, the Rivers United match remains of great importance to Pyramids FC, especially as the club is vying for the top spot in the group".
"We will play to win to secure first place. For the African champions, every match is played to win, whether at home or away, regardless of the circumstances.”
The CAF Champions League encounter is scheduled for Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
