CAFCL: Finidi Reveals Reason For Rivers United’s Massive Defeat Against Pyramids FC

Rivers United head coach Finidi George has explained the factors behind his team’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to defending champions Pyramids FC in their CAF Champions League Group Stage opener in Cairo on Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Pride of Rivers held their own in the first half, limiting the Egyptians to minimal opportunities, but collapsed after the break as striker Ahmed Atef scored a hat-trick to seal victory for the hosts.

Speaking after the match, Finidi attributed the loss to wasted chances and costly defensive errors.

“We played well but the final touch was not there,” Finidi said.

 “We did well in the first half and in the second half, their first goal was a mistake from our defender. If you allow a team like this to score, they will gain momentum, and from tha,t they got their second goal, and from there the game was over.”

The Nigerian coach expressed disappointment but insisted that his squad will learn from the defeat and come back stronger in subsequent group matches.

Rivers United will now shift their focus to their next CAF Champions League fixture, where they will attempt to revive their qualification hopes.
